Newsletter (8th September,2008)

Beloved parents,
We welcome you back to school for the first term 2008 / 2009 academic session. We thank the Lord for seeing us through the last session, the summer break and bringing us to where we are presently. 2008 / 2009 session was only in our thoughts and imagination but today it is a reality. We are most thankful to you because it would not have been possible without you. It is our prayer to Him to keep us all as we embark on this new sessional journey by His mighty grace. Once again, we say welcome!

We bring you a lot of wonderful news of events during the summer and a host of others for the new session and term.

EXCURSIONS (Oshogbo, Florida, Ghana and Malaysia)

In our belief in travel education, your school makes it a point of duty to go on excursions locally and internationally. Previously, we take the children to Orlando, Florida. In April, however, they were taken to Ghana and during the last summer break, it was Kuala Lumpar and other Malaysian cities. The Malaysian trip was very fulfilling and we thank God for the great encounters and experiences. It was quite exposing having to go to Asia instead of the West that we were used to. We are not leaving out the Oshogbo trip also undertaken last term. The students know not just the West and Asia, they are also abreast of their homeland. We promise to continue in this light this session. We thank you for your laudable support.

PARENTS FORUM/SEMINAR

On the 19 July, 2008, the parents forum came alive again with a seminar titled: Giving Your Child the Best Education and facilitated by Standard Mandate International Motivational Consultants. It was a powerful seminar that all who attended it would like to have such again. Another one is being planned for either 8 or 15 November. We shall keep you informed. Please plan to attend; it promises to be more challenging and explosive.

DRESS CODE AND NEW UNIFORM

For improved outlook of both staffs and students, we are taking another turn. This time, on Mondays, both staffs and students shall be garbed in WHITE shirts. This has already been ordered.

Also, new uniforms have been ordered for the students. This is in line with meeting with the trends.

VALEDICTORY SERVICE/GRADUATION

The valedictory service and graduation ceremonies held in the school on the 11 and 12 July 2008 the two days for Primary and Secondary in that order. Parents and their wards rejoiced for the wonderful thing God did for them. Both occasions were graced by important dignitaries among whom were Mr. Ernest Adinweruka, Area Manager, Fidelity Bank, Victoria Island, Mrs. Maggie Ibru,
Pastor Nelson Ayodele, CEO/Managing Consultant, Standard Mandate International (Motivational Consultants), Dr. Mopelola Omoegun Associate Professor of Guidance and Counselling, University of Lagos and a host of others.

SUMMER SCHOOL
The summer school, held between 4th and 29th August, was very exciting. It was a fusion of games, sports and stress less learning-everything in its proper order. We are grateful to all those who partook of it and to God for the lessons learnt thereby.

SEA SCHOOL
The Sea School-Citizenship Leadership Training Centre experience has come to stay forming part of the Queensland brand. When we visited the place with our Years 11 & 12 students in February, it was a resounding success recorded with 10 of the 23 students winning blue badges (awards of excellence). We are preparing for another visit in April 2009. Get ready!

SPI:K RAIT, SOUND RAIT SPEECH & ETIQUETTE TRAINING

Your great school, ever poised to give nothing but the best to her students & pupils, continually has in her retainership the prestigious Spi:k Rait, Sound Rait (Speech and Etiqutte experts) to add the needed finishing to your wards for a perfect blend. Its all about making royalty out of your children.

NEW HORIZONS I.C.T EXPERTS
Our partnership with the New Horizons [Computer Learning Centre] still holds strong; in fact, the ties are stronger. We will not stop till we get your wards totally ICT compliant in the present computer & digital world where the formally educated and aware is assessed by his/her computer knowledge & prowess.

Our computer centre is second to none with every child having easy access to the computer for maximum training and practice.

LAPTOP PURCHASE FOR TEACHERS

The teachers are not left out of it. In the term that just ended, teachers in both schools were bought laptops by the school management via a facility from SKYE bank. The second batch shall come up shortly. Rest assured that your teachers are of expected standard and equipment.

NECO JSCE 2008 RESULT
The NECO Junior Secondary Certificate Examination result is out. The school recorded a hundred percent pass. 23 students took the examination in 13 subjects with no student taking more than 11 subjects. 56% scored As, 37% Cs and 7% Ps. 3 students had 10 As and 1C, 3 had 9 As and 2 Cs, 1 student 8 As, 3 Cs, 2 students 7 As, 4 Cs in that order and the least performance is 3 As, 4 Cs, 4 Ps. All-round As was recorded in Maths, French and Integrated Science. The result is presented at a glance.

The school awaits the SSCE result yet

NEWLY COMPUTERIZED RESULTS
Further to our quest of rendering quality and invaluable service, we have gone computerized in our coloured results print-out coupled with a glossy jacket packaging. We are sure that this met your taste, and convinced you further of our brand.

MENTORING PROGRAMME

The mentoring programme is yet in force. As long as we take on challenging cases and turn them around by the grace of the ministry we have received, we make bold to say that your wards are in the best hands available. With this programme, every aspect of your child is given adequate and very personal attention. This is outside the usual counseling. The results have been tremendous.

COOLING THE CLASSROOMS

All classrooms in the Primary school are air-conditioned. The same thing shall apply in the Secondary school as they are being installed presently. We have a firm belief in our ideals and mission of providing a conducive environment for learning and that’s why we are not batting an eyelid at giving the very best in this regard.

SATURDAY SPORTS PROGRAMME

We cherish sports, the glory it brings and the physical fitness that accompanies it. We also believe in the efficacy of exercises and recreation. On select Saturdays, apart from the basket ball, badminton and volley ball courts in the school, the students in the boarding house visit the National Stadium for sundry sporting activities and games. Arrangements are also in top gear to enter into an agreement with the management of NAF Base, Ikeja to make use of their swimming facility

STAFF AUDIT / APPRAISAL
Our yearly auditing and appraisal took place between 23-29 July, 2008. In our avowed efforts at always re-engineering, we audit and appraise staff performance for maximum performance. Also, this aids our restructuring as the practice helps to purge the system.

This brings about a STAFF TURNOVER & RECRUITMENT that’s almost unequalled. The minimum years of experience of a Queensland teacher is five years. We go out of our way, even stretch our budget, to get the best hands in the industry

ENVIRONMENTAL OUTFIT & FUMMIGATION

In our drive at always improving our already aesthetic environment, we have contracted the cleaning of our school to Qualef Nigeria Limited, a cleaning company which specializes in maintaining the environment with machines and equipment. The feeling is different and the environment is nothing but appealing.

And just as we were about resuming, the entire surroundings was fumigated. It is all about studying in a clean and totally sanitized environment.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION SPORTS MEET

On 15 March 2008, our students participated in the International Schools Association Sports meet, held at the Unilag Sports complex, where she performed excellently well, winning laurels (golds, silver and bronze medals) and beating the biggest names in the international schools circles. In all, the school won 4 gold, 8 silver, 4 bronze.

MONTESSORI

The Montessori department is fully equipped. We wish to assure our parents that the school has qualified and able staff who will handle the children to be the best.

GYMNASTICS/BALLET

This programme will commence this session. It will boost mental alertness in the children. Besides, the students will be exposed to opportunities outside the country for international competitions. Parents are implored to enroll their children now.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

At the end of last term, some select students were given letters to parents for special scholarship class. The school wishes to remind parents to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Lessons have started and no child is left out.

VISIT TO LITTLE SAINTS ORPHANAGE BY THE EDD AND PASTOR AYODELE NELSON

In our drive to reach all even the less privileged in our extended service to humanity, the Queensland family, represented by the Education Development Director and the Board Chairman Pastor Ayodele Nelson on 13 May, 2008. It was quite exciting and fulfilling as sundry gifts and food items were given out. We thank God for little mercies.

SEMINARS AND TRAINING

Seminars and trainings are parts of Queensland life. We are poised for continually improving our knowledge base aimed at meeting our goals and targets. Staffs and management training take place both within and outside the school. The list is endless SMI, Corona Teacher Training School, several in-house trainings, etc.

PROJECTORS USED IN THE CLASSROOM

In our drive to completely be ICT compliant and to make learning easier and more interesting, projector aided teaching is in the pipeline. We implore parents to be informed and poised for a totally repackaged Queensland.

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE

At the end of every term, Queensland students undergo in-house subject contexts and outstanding students are compensated. Its all about encouraging excellent performance.

AFTER SCHOOL SERVICE

After school service in the Primary shall commence this second week. Time is 3- 4:30pm. Snacks and drinks shall be served. See the school administrative department for details

SCHEME MERGER
We did promise a scheme merger of our local resource and the foreign IGCSE curriculum for all arms of the secondary school. This has become a reality and we are putting that to use right away. The objective, we told you, is to evolve a more thought provoking learning experience for our students. Besides, it will ultimately produce students whose level is beyond knowledge to that of comprehension, application & evaluation. We implore you parents to come closer to see what we are doing in this regard.

OZONIZED WATER

If you go around the school and the boarding houses, one thing will strike you; and that is the presence of treated ozonized water equipment supplying cool and warm water. This is the highest water treatment available and we have gone the length to provide it for the health & safety of your wards

PAINTING AND FURNISHING

The entire school environment, the boarding house inclusive, is receiving a face lift. The walls, offices, halls and classrooms are painted. All doors have been changed and replaced with well-treated mahogany and iron doors. Our knack for aesthetics cannot be compromised for any reason all in our drive to serve the children better.

CONCLUSION

There are lots more but we are limited by space in this newsletter/publication. However, we assure you that despite these, the best is yet to come as your dear school shall continually be re-engineered for greater heights. We will stop at nothing to ensure that even when we under promise, we will always over deliver. We thank you once again for making Queensland your choice school. Welcome back to the new session and term once again.
