ABOUT

Queensland Academy - realizing our students' potentials and providing creative and individual learning specific to every child. Queensland Academy Senior School is a vibrant, structured and systemic environment with a strong devotion to disciplined and qualitative behavior.

READING CULTURE/BOOK CLUB Central to successful studying is the availability of a good library that is functioning well. Our library is stocked with many useful books and the students always make good use of the books and other resources. Students can study in the library as well as borrow books for a short period.

In the future we plan to acquire more books and hope that will enable better studies. Students are expected to visit the library at least once a week. Specific library time is built into the school curriculum and at such times, each class would have the use of the library service. Aside specific periods marked out in the curriculum, students are encouraged at their free time to visit the library to read and borrow books.

This inculcates in them the reading culture, which is very important for success in academics and life. The discipline that is enforced in the library means a lot to the development of the students. They learn to become considerate and aware of other people's needs. Students have monitored access to internet facilities in the library and they are encouraged to make the best use of such facilities for academic purposes, as priority.

CURRICULUM

Queensland Academy operates a Nigerian/International Curriculum as both seek to achieve different ends. The former based on the National Education Policy, takes learning from a wider perspective while the later emphasizes the depth of knowledge.

A thorough blend of both as it is applied in Queensland Academy produces uniquely outstanding students that are able to stand the challenges of the mixed and complex world anywhere they find themselves.

INFRASTRUCTURE

We thank God for enabling the leadership of the school to provide adequate infrastructure for the school. Furniture in classes, hostel and staff room and teachers' quarters, are comfortable and adequate.

At RISS we are fully prepared to make studying rewarding experience and power outages cannot be a factor at all. Electricity is also steady and in case of power outages the school has a powerful generator that functions well.

Water supply is also an area we have invested seriously and we thank God that our water plant functions well and adequately meet the needs of the school population. The classrooms are ergonomically designed, well lit, large enough and conducive to study. The school has a bus and will be acquiring more in the nearest future.

Security is also very important to us and this has lead us into investing heavily in modern high-tech security gadgets that work round the clock. This makes monitoring activities less subjective and gives room for real time readiness in terms of security responses.

The school has a Health Bay to take care of ill students. While we do not run a clinic, it is the first point of call for anyone that is ill before being sent to the hospital if the case requires such.
